The new coin was released for circulation on January 30, 1946, on FDR’s 64th birthday.

On one side of the dime is FDR’s portrait and on the other, olive and oak branches with a torch between, symbolizing liberty and peace.

There’s a funny anecdote behind the special coin. The designer and engraver of the dime was John R. Sinnock and his initials (“JS”) where placed on the coin. Shortly after, a wave of rumors spread through Communist fearing America; rumors that the initials of Joseph Stalin were placed on the coin by a Soviet intruder. It’s easy to understand the reason for the initials JRS that were used by the designer on the Franklin half dollars that he designed later on.

The Roosevelt Dimes set is a mesmerizing, 198 coin set of BU and Proof Roosevelt Dimes. The first album I ever bought was Thriller and I even danced my first dance with the music of the King of Pop. I have all Jackson’s albums but still, I really wanted to keep a memory that is both respectful for the King and different than anything else.

Last week I came across some wonderful Michael Jackson coin sets, dedicated to the King of Pop, to his life and his influential career. The 4 piece colorized coin set includes:

John F. Kennedy Half Dollar (random year) colorized with a the classic image of Jackson

Washington quarter, colorized with the image of a young Michael Jackson after he made his debut with The Jackson Five in 1963

Washington quarter, colorized with the image of Jackson from the height of his popularity as the King of Pop

Washington quarter, colorized with the image of Jackson as he appeared shortly before his death

The set is struck by the United States Mint and professionally colorized with approved images of Michael Jackson. George T. Morgan was the designer of the Morgan Silver Dollar, which is considered to be the King of silver dollars.

The Morgan Dollar was minted between the years 1878 and 1904 and once again in 1921. Morgan designed both sides of the coin, one side featuring Lady Liberty and an Eagle holding olive branch and arrows on the other.

The coin is made of 90% silver, and wasn’t really popular at the time. If you’re looking to enter into this amazing hobby and you want to know how to start a coin collection, here are a few essential coin collection tips, to help you get going:

Decide which coins you would like to collect. You can collect coins by years or by countries. You can collect themed coins like coins that depict your hero or a subject you’re interested in, like nature or airplanes.

Start with collecting coins that are available or in circulation and see if you like it. Collect the State quarters or ask from friends that travel abroad to bring you back some coins.

Get a protective album or book where you can safely store your coin collection. These albums are great when you want to display your collection and they also keep the coins protected.

Finish one set before moving on to the next. Once you start a collection, you can get easily tempted to get other coins and different themes. An organized collection of full sets is more valuable.

When your coin collection starts to gain scope and value, you should think about safe storage. Coins are an easy target so make sure that your collection is kept in a well hidden place.

If you are looking for more information about collectors coins and coin collections, head on to www.ContinentalMint.com were we help Coin Collectors start and expand their collection with a wide selection of coin sets, Lincoln Cents and collectors’ supplies, at the best prices available.

The Eisenhower Dollars - Short Lived and Hard to Find now in a Complete Set

Here’s to another lovely 1 dollar coin, although short lived, we’re proud to commemorate the Eisenhower Dollar. We’re sure you are doing anything you can in order to keep your collection in mint condition. Here are a few tips that can help you maintain coins and keep them in perfect shape.

What's wrong with this image?

Always use specialty plastic pockets for your coin storage. Coins don’t like water (especially copper ones) and they even don’t like you! Yes. Our skin is oily and touching the coins is not the smartest thing to do. The cent was designed by Victor D. Well, there is no conspiracy theory here and Lincoln doesn’t face because of a law, but only because Brenner used a portrait of Lincoln that was facing right…

Before the new cents hit circulation, this is your chance to get the 1934 – 2008 Lincoln Cents collection. This is a massive coin set of 223 BU and Proof Lincoln Cents, magnificently displayed in 2 Dansco Supreme Albums.
